Jewel J. DrumNovember 22, 1925 ~ August 12, 2017 (age 91)
Jewel Jeanette Murphy Drum, 91, went quietly and peacefully to be with her Heavenly Father in the early morning hours on Saturday, August 12, 2017. Born in Dunnellon, FL on November 22, 1925, Jewel was a lifelong resident of Florida. At age 7, she and her family moved from Dunnellon to New Smyrna Beach, FL where they lived until she was to enter her senior year of high school. They then moved to Sanford, FL where she attended Seminole High School and graduated in 1943. About that time, the Sanford Naval Air Station was being constructed in Sanford and Jewel's life was about to change forever when she met the love of her life, Jimmy Drum. Jimmy was the U.S. Navy's first sailor to arrive at the Sanford Naval Air Station. Although Jewel was engaged to someone else at the time, Jimmy stole her heart forever. They were married in May of 1945 and lived in Sanford for the remainder of their lives. A testament to their love and devotion for each other, Jewel and Jimmy were married for more than seven decades (71 years!) until his recent passing on October 16, 2016. Jewel's most cherished job was being a wonderful and loving wife to Jimmy, mother to their daughter Sharon Drum Domosley of Silver City, New Mexico, grandmother to Shannon Domosley Swindall, Matt Domosley and Adam Domosley, great-grandmother to Justin, Jason and Amy Swindall, all from Denver, Colorado. She also leaves behind numerous cousins, scattered from Florida to South Carolina. Her family was most precious to her, and all will miss her greatly. The family will be receiving friends Tuesday, August 22, 2017 from 12:00 PM ~ 2:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Sanford, Florida.
