Obituary

Mary Ann Lemp passed away peacefully in her home on April 16, 2020 after suffering with Alzheimer’s the last 10 years. Mary Ann was born in the Peachtree Hills District of Atlanta, Georgia on December 25, 1934 to Pierce King and Mary Channell. She was the youngest of 3 brothers, Louis, Charles (Charlie) and Ralph who all preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Decatur High in Atlanta. But for the short time her Dad worked in Florida, she attended Mt Dora High School where she was a cheerleader. It was there she met and later married her High School Sweetheart, Harry Wise. Mary Ann and Harry built a beautiful home on Lake Apopka and had the joy of adopting 2 daughters, Debbie Wise (Schafer) and Mary Sharon Wise (Turner). They became active members of Calvary Baptist Church and were instrumental in starting Calvary Christian School. Mary Ann even donated her time as secretary for 2 years in order to help get the school off the ground. Harry preceded her in death in April 1974. On November 5, 1974 Mary Ann married her friend and Pastor, Reynold Lemp who had 3 children Elizabeth Lemp (Kennedy), Tim, and Lydia. She began and embraced her new role as a Pastor’s wife and was a counselor and teacher to the ladies of the church for many years. They loved traveling together going to places like Key West, Canada, and Alaska. Trips with her childhood friends, Gloria and Walker Fife, were always a highlight--They shared many, many times together at the beach sunning, fishing, and playing putt-putt golf. Mary Ann’s love was spending time with her grandchildren. She was blessed to have 12 Grandchildren: Christopher, Carey, Kayla, Clay, Kurtis, Kenny, and Carson (Schafer): Ross and Allison (Lemp), Drew, Kyle, Mary Danielle (Turner); and 13 great-grandchildren. Memories include home-made special treats, LOTS of games including UNO and Monopoly, and sleeping on pallets in front of the fireplace. She is survived by her husband, Reynold Lemp; Daughters, Elizabeth Kennedy (Mike), Debbie Schafer (Scot), Lydia Lemp, and Sharon Turner, All Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank her caregivers; Linda Claudio, Mary Coffey Shield, Lauren Lively, Isa Sanchez, Joanna Tyrrell, Leah Lockhart, Sharita Wright, and Alma Hunter, as well as Vitas Hospice, the staff @Visiting Physicians Association, and Encompass Health. Due to the current Covid-19 regulations, there will be a small, family gathering on Monday, April 20, 2020 at the graveside to be followed up with a Celebration of Life service once the Shelter-in-Place order has been lifted.
