Spencer Seymour Payne 79, of Winter Park, Florida, passed away on February 2, 2019. Born in Covington Ky, on October 27, 1939 to Roscoe and Rosella Payne. Spencer was raised in Goldenrod, Florida by his mother and step father William Krusen. Spencer did a tour of duty in the USAF and latter he attended Rockledge High School in Cocoa, Florida graduating in 1960. He went to Middle Tennessee State University, Florida State, University of Central Florida and Altamaha Technical School in Jesus, GA. Then spent time traveling around Mexico and the US before moving back to Florida. Spencer earned his pilot license and twin engine rating and worked as corporate pilot flying a private twin engine plane.
He enjoyed working on engines and electronics. He was referred to as “Mr. Fix it” for his ability to fix just about anything. He also enjoyed building and racing go carts and formula one endurance racing.
Spencer is survived by his best friend and companion who cared for him throughout his illness, Rose Norman from Ontario. He is preceded by his step father William Krusen who raised him from age five. He is survived by sister Marguerite Thursby, Lolita Mikami, brother David Payne, all of Winter Park, Florida, his niece Noelle Stettner of Roswell Ga, nephews James Lee Payne of Daytona Fl, and Roger Thursby of Hong Kong. He is also survived by numerous cousins, friends and racing advocates and aviation fans.
Spencer is preceded by his parents Roscoe and Rosella Payne, his son Sean David Durham of Blacksburg Va.
Celebration of life to be held Sunday February 10, 2019 at the Slovak Garden in Winter Park, Florida from 2pm to 4pm.
