Arthur H. Harris age 96, of Lake City, Florida, passed away June 2, 2020. He was born July 21, 1923 in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of the late Francis A. and Marie (Putthoff) Harris. Arthur was a WWII Veteran, he moved to Sanford, Florida in 1942 with the Marine Corp. Mr. Harris was a general contractor with Ohdam and Tudor building homes and commercial buildings in Sanford, Orlando, and Titusville. He was known as the "Godfather" of long term care serving as the nursing home administrator of Florida Manor for the Catholic Diocese, serving for over 30 years. Mr. Harris dedicated his life to the well being of the elderly. Arthur was on the Zoning Board of Sanford for over 20 years. He was past President of the Florida Healthcare Association and countless other committees, and organizations. He was a long time member of All Souls Catholic Church where he served as an usher for over 70 years; and helped with renovations of the rectory. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Irene Rabun Harris in 2017, the two were married for 73 years, one son Donnie Harris, and great granddaughter Kayln Harris. Arthur is survived by his two daughters Linda Harris, Pat (Charlie) Miller, both of Lake City, Florida; his sister-in-law Maxine Rabun (Charles) Stafford, of DeBary, Florida, two grandchildren Chris (Tasha) Harris, and Kim (Brian) Slanker, three great grandchildren Caleb Harris, Seth Slanker, and Lindsey Slanker, all of Lake City, Florida. Mr. Harris is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in his name to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church 1272 SW McFarlane Ave. Lake City, Fl., 32025. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, June 5, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Evergreen Cemetery, Sanford, Florida. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Lake City, Florida.
