Arthurene Wilson Cook, 90, of Lake Mary, Fl. passed away on January 21, 2020. She was born in Orlando, Fl. on Jan 4, 1930. Her parents were Arthur Lee and Lera Mae Watts Wilson. In 1942 her father was called in military service for World War II and the family moved to Columbus, Ga. to live with her grandmother. She graduated from Jordan Vocational High school there in 1947 and learned her clerical skills to prepare her for an office job.
The family moved to Sanford, Fl shortly after her graduation and she resided there until 2017. She worked for a few years for Family Loan Co and several years for Arthur Beckwith in the Seminole Co Clerks office.
She married Walter Cook in 1955 and they were married 60 years until Walter’s passing in 2015. They had 3 children David, Dan, and Sherry. She became a homemaker thru the rest of her life. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Sanford for some 63 years. She was very involved in that church as a Sunday school teacher, trustee, member of the choir for some time, ran the Wednesday night dinners, and was on many boards and functions there.
She moved her membership to Westview Baptist Church in Sanford in 2015 and was welcomed with warmth and Christian love. She attended many activities there.
She spent many years involved with our family attending sporting events with the boys and many activities with Sherry such as Rainbow girls, etc. We spent much time at New Smyrna beach in the summers, Rock Springs, Juniper Springs, and other places. We also traveled many times to North Carolina and south Georgia to visit family. She made sure that we were full of love for others and made sure that we all had a full Christian upbringing.
She and my father traveled after he retired in 1995 for several years to North Carolina to visit with church members and other friends near Glendale Springs and Franklin. The two also enjoyed trips to Hawaii, New England, and many other spots in this country and beyond. They also spent lots of time getting to enjoy their children, grandchildren, and great grands.
Arthurene always has a nice smile and kind word for all she met. As she passes from this world into Heaven, we all lost a kind, gentle, and wonderful woman who we were all blessed by God to have many years of rewarding enjoyment with all who came into her presence.
Arthurene was predeceased in death by her parents, Husband Walter, and son Dan. She is survived by her son David, daughter Sherry Landry (husband Joe), sister in law Marty Moore, Brother Fred Wilson and his wife Sandra, 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces, as well as other relatives.
Gramkow Funeral Home in Sanford on Airport Blvd is handling funeral arrangements. Visitation will be there at 10am and the service at 11am this Saturday, January 25. Burial will be following at Evergreen Cemetery in Sanford following the service.
